Meet Tommy Coleman, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, has recently started chapter two of his New York acting career, after spending three years in Virginia working at a Teaching Artist at the Virginia Stage Company. Prior to working in his hometown, Tommy lived in Glasgow, Scotland, where he received his Master’s Degree in Musical Theatre Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of London.
He later lived in London, England, where he performed in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Topdog/Underdog and Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The culmination of his London career was performing at the legendary Shakespeare’s Globe as the titular character in “The Lightning Child,” the first musical performed at the venue. During an 11 month stint in New York, Tommy performed in The Movement Theater Company’s “Look Upon Our Lowliness,” in Harlem.
Now that he has returned to the city, he has been working as a voice over artist with Studio Center Total Productions, and is in the process of reacclimating to the city. Within the next five years, he hopes to be continuously telling stories that are purposeful and represent the depth and breadth of society.
